Lineolated Parakeets are just the coolest little birds! Linnies (Bolborhynchus lineola) are a lovebird sized parakeet native to Central and South America. They have very melodious voices for a member of the parrot family. Their baby sounds are irresistible! I like to describe their 'annoyed' call as reminiscent of a chimpanzee scream (though much quieter!). They have big, beautiful, dark eyes, a budgie-like beak, and a short, pointed tail. They prefer walking to flying, and love to climb. They often hold their food with their feet to eat it, like a big parrot (unlike lovebirds). They really are cute little fellers. AND THEY CAN TALK!! Yup, that's right, these guys can talk. Some are better talkers than others, but most pick up a few words. Babies we have had have started talking as early as eight weeks, saying 'hi', laughing and imitating kissIe noises. Some are now even singing parts of 'old macdonald'!
