Sun conures belong to the aratinga genus of conures. They are native to south america and are among the most beautiful of all parrots. Their striking colours of red, orange, yellow, green and blue are truly breath taking. They are not known as good talkers, but some do pick up a few words. What they are really known for (aside from their beauty), is their clownish antics. They are very playful, active birds.
sun conures are not suitable for apartment living, as they have loud, strident voices. Many people are surprised at the volume these little birds can achieve. This is not only true of sun conures, but of many parrot species. I often hear of birds being rehomed because neighbours and/or family members have complained about the noise level of their pet bird. Please make sure you are well informed on how loud parrots can be before you purchase one.
